Craft Director Not Recognizing Input devices.

Post by Fox1972 » Tue Apr 26, 2022 7:58 am

Hi all,

I downloaded the craft demo the other day and have been trying to get my devices working with it. It will not detect anything. I have a fairly new Logitech joystick, a Logitech F310 Game controller and a 3dx Cadmouse Pro Wireless. I really wanted to use the cad mouse. Anyway I have tried it on both 3ds max 2018 and 3ds max 2020 to no avail. I have windows 10 fully updated, latest version of 3dxware 10.8.7, latest video RTX drivers. The cadmouse works fine in 3dsmax, just craft cannot detect it. I can however, manually bind to both joystick and game controller. Any idea's because i'm out of idea's. I have been through this forum and tried a few other things but they didn't work as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Fox,

Unfortunately you will not be able to use the 3DConnexion/3dx cadmouse with Craft Director Studio as we removed the support for 3DConnexion mice some time ago. We removed it as the support was with each of 3DConnexion driver update broken and was creating a bad experience for our users.

Craft Director Studio use the same functions for input devices as the games do on Windows. So if it is detected by Windows it will work with Craft Director Studio. However, you need to make sure the input devices are connected and on before you start 3ds max. If you connect them afterwards or disconnect/turn off once 3ds max is started you need to restart 3ds max again to have the input device functioning again.

What version of CDS are you using?

I'm using the latest demo version.

Damn that's a shame not being able to use the cad mouse, however, having been on connexion's forum trying to figure all this out, I can kinda understand why it was dropped, especially from a business stand point. All devices are connected at system startup. Basically all I want is ObserverCam controllable with the mouse, yaw and pitch only so I can do snappy camera shots. Bit to slow and uncontrollable using a game pad or joystick. For example, If I open 3ds max's motion capture, and assign a transform motion capture controller to the camera's target.....I can move it with the mouse, however, it's not real smooth and looks terrible, helps if you slow the mouse movement down, but then you can barley move the camera. So close yet so far.
