ground collision

Post by chasman » Sun Jun 08, 2008 9:28 pm

I am going through the trial. I only have 24 hours so I hope I get a response quick!

I have a need for 4 wheel sims for a project I am working on but I need a deformed terrain. How do I get the vehicle to collide with the ground? I dug through the tutorials and docs. I missed something.

I would like to recreate the Craft 4-Wheeler: Ragdoll Roadkill demo in the gallery.

any help would be appreciated,

thanks!

Hello

When you create a Craft 4-wheeler helper, under the car, you will see a green arrow called GravityDirectionMesh. That arrow needs to be linked to your ground plane. When you have linked it and pressed the record button, the car will "fall down" to your ground object and then follow the surface.

Here is a link to the manual:

And here is a link to a tutorial:

Good luck!

Also, if you need a suface that is deformed, just use a noise modifier or something on the plane object!

It's a red arrow, not green, other than that this was a perfect response. Thanks Stefan_40 and I hope this got you started Chasman.

Hello Fem, do you think I can take a look at your scene? Or could you post a screenshot of the problem to better describe it?

Hello Vegar and welcome to our forum!

The mesh you must link/parent to the ground is the GravityDirectionMesh that is under the 4-Wheeler Extended rigg. I guess you are linking/parenting the TargetMesh to the ground. This is wrong. The TargetMesh is used when creating autonomous animations ie. using a spline for the 4-Wheeler to follow.

Here is a detail image of the different meshes on the 4-Wheeler Extended. You can find the GravityDirectionMesh in the bottom of this image. It's mesh look like an arrow pointing downwards. Link/Parent this mesh to the ground you are going to drive on.

Also, check out the video tutorial for Craft 4-Wheeler Extended here: http://www.craftanimations.com/index.cf ... F735792452

good luck! :)

Yes , it work very well
In fact, it's as you said, we must link/parent to the ground objet with GravityDirectionMesh. The colisont with vehicle and other object works very well.

I congratulate you for developement of this plugins. Is very powerfull. With reactor we have to past a long long time to configure for a simple vehicle.
I tested Vehicle Sim of Newplugins, and other plugins but without satisfaction, and many bug.

Your plugins it's the best.

Thanks.

Hello , i'm back again

I made some test with another ground. Now the ground is in 2 parts and the car must jump from the 1st ground to the 2nd ground.
Look this movie please. http://krasniqi.fehmi.free.fr/craft/Untitled.html

In order to make Craft 4-Wheeler Extended interact with both of those ground objects you first need to combine them into the same object. Simply right click on the boxes and convert them to Editable mesh and then through the Modify tab, select Attach and select the other box and they'll be combined.

Oh, and of course make sure that Enable Jumping is checked in the Configuration for Craft 4-Wheeler Extended.

Yes it' works
I have atached all objects to one Editable mesh but the "Jumping" was not selected and configureted.
I think Carl you must make un video tutorial (screen tutorial) for these features. I know that it take time.

I'm glad you got it working. Instead of checking the "Enable Jumping" checkbox, to get the best results when jumping with Craft 4-Wheeler Extended you should load one of the Configuration profiles called:

Car With Jump Settings (Rally),
Car With Trick Jump Settings
-or-
Moon Buggy With Jump Settings
