2Wheeler EXt problem

Post by Simon Z » Wed Feb 16, 2011 10:23 pm

Hi I have tires issues with this rig. No matter what I try I always end up with my front and rear tires coming out out the geometry. Can I post images?

I fallow the tutorial on the 2Wheeler EXt, but maybe I'm doing something wrong. Do I need to parent the WheelMesh to the tires or both the WheelMesh and the WheelRelocatorMesh? And waht abouit the size of both?

Please help me.

Simon

I'm on Softimage 2011 using the 10.1.2 X64 version

You are supposed to only parent the high-poly wheels to the WheelMeshes of the rig. The problem what I can tell of the pictures is that the mudguards is not following the WheelMeshs. Parent the mudguards to the WheelCenterMeshs.

Thank you. It did fix my problem but now I have a bigger one. My entire rear wheel and mudguard goes up when I turn or skid. (see image) I manage to fix the same problem in the front by raising the handle bar mesh rig but for the rear one, I'm stuck! I'm thinking that maybe my body mesh rig is to low. I've parent the wheels meshs to the wheels ans match the pivot to the wheels pivot.

Thank's

Simon

Well you need to rig those parts as well. You can use the Suspension tool in CDS. Place it were you like to have it .. (top and botom of suspension for example) click on the initialize button in the configuration then link/parent the Suspensions UpperHold to the body, the LowerHold to the WheelCenterMesh, the top part of the high-poly suspension to the UpperHold, the bottom part of the high-poly suspension to the LowerHold and the high-poly spring to the Spring of the suspension tool. Do the same for the other parts even the "fish bones".

Ok I've tried without luck. I end up with the same results. Just to be clear, what part of the bike needs to be rigued? for now my rear wheel, the rear mudgard and the suspention spring are no attached to the body (merge). why it work with the front wheel but not the back.? the rear wheel and mudgard keep moving .

It is all knew to me, sorry if I seem confused...

I did more tests. It seem that when I only parent the wheels to the body, they stand still but when I parent the wheelmeshs to the wheels it started to move up and down, just like if the center of the wheels would not be fix the the body... (Front and rear wheels have the same problem). Could it also be a suspension problem, not hard enough? I re look at the Luigi T. 2wheelers tutorial's but it seems I'm missing something on Softimage...

I don't see the error in this. I believe that the wheels are moving correct but you have not rigged the rear swing arm and the rear suspension. Don't you get the same problem during accelerating?

There are no difference between the functions of CDS in Maya or Softimage. I am just guessing you are not rigging the correct parts to the correct Dummy Meshes.

Children of BodyMesh:
- High-poly body and body parts.
- UpperHold (suspension top)
- swing arm top constraint
- high-poly rear mudguard

Children to SteeringBarsMesh:
- High-poly suspension upperhold
- high-poly steering

Children to WheelCenterMesh_Front:
- high-poly suspension lowerhold
- high-poly brake
- high-poly front mudguard

Children to WheelMesh_Front:
- high-poly wheel
- brake disc

Children to WheelCenterMesh_Rear:
- LowerHold (suspension bottom)
- high-poly brake
- swing arm bottom constraint

Children to WheelMesh_Rear:
- high-poly wheel
- brake disc
- cog

I may have missed a ting or two but hopefully you are able to find those...
If the wheels goes to high during compression change the settings for the suspension of the 2-Wheeler in the configuration in CDS.

I finally manage to do my first test. I did some adjustments with the position of the wheelmesh and Gravitymesh in my curve editor.

I will run more tests because I enjoy so much your product. I'm in my second year of my Bachelor degree in 3D animation, and for my specialization I might just do all sort of thing with Craft Animation.

I post a video here of my test. Please comment if you want.

Thank you

Simon

(the tires seem flat but it's because the VUE ground is a bit over the grid that the bike is parent to.)
