Align car to steep road

Post by fredrik » Wed Jul 30, 2008 2:05 pm

I'm having issues with being able to make the car align with the road... I am aware of that this is not physically correct in any way:
Example movie (play back with VLC)

How can I make the car actually point towards the sky, launching up?
Right now the wheels are doing it right but not the chassis of the car...

Hi Again.

That looks a bit freaky, the simulator actually allows for up-side-down driving.
My guess is that you have "Enable Jumping" checked. Yes?

Nope, no jump enabled.

Actually, it seems like it might have something to do with the suspensions... I tweaked the maximum tilt angle and it looks much better now.

Excellent!
Usually this has to do with collision detection and the car moving too fast. The simple solution is to temporarily increase the fps in your scene, say to 300. Record (or resimulate) the problematic parts and then simply set the fps back to whaterver you initially used.
When you apply the booster the suspension stiffens by the "booster suspension multiplier" functionality (because the car would otherwise become unstable at those speeds). When it stiffens it also much more difficult for the physics to change quickly such as when approaching a steep hill as in your clip.

I am having the same type of problem. I wasn't able to view the sample video above, but I am using autonomous mode, and want my car to go up and down a few curves (hills). The Green target mesh moves along the spline, up and down, but the car follows in a straight line, as if it's on a flat road, and does not move along the curve. I tried increasing my maximum forward tilt angle in the suspension parameters but it didn't help. When I push the resimulate botton it does it fast (like 2 seconds) and it's done resimulating. But any change in that tilt angle does not help.

Any other solutions? The car is still just moving along a straight ground level. Right now I have no ground plane, since I wanted the car to follow my nurbs spline instead.
Is my target mesh supposed to be linked to something?

Ok, your car does not interact with the nurbs/poly surface. For the car to know what ground to interact with you need to parent/link the gravityDirectionMesh to the surface.
