Hi, solomon-))
Yeah, it's all done inside 3dmax-))
At a cannon shot fire and a smoke effect I did in FumeFX. But on my suxx weak home PC this effect is rendered very long time (GI-generation is on and VRay adjustments are lowest, even shot - 100 frames ~ about 8 hours :x ), therefore at creation of a sand dust effect it was necessary to refuse it and make a dust by the PyroClaster plugin. 3d-sky - by DreamScape and finally all composited in AfterEffects

Cheshirsky answered that question in another thread, let me quote him:

Excuse me, but my lammer English sometimes prevents me to understand ideas of the interlocutor correctly. Are You meant this "mudtrack"?

If I'm right, any lessons on this theme at me are not present, but I have very ancient plugin (probably still ancient Autodesk itself :D ) for creation of traces for some seconds. This 3dsmax plug-in absolutely free, it called Sisyphus Software MAXTRAX II and it is rather simple in training. I tried it in max-versions 9-2008, but I think in max2009 it will not work.
In archive with the plug (just put a dlo-file in plugins folder) also there is very accessible manual.
You can download this archive here -> http://rapidshare.com/files/144392500/m ... 9.rar.html

If you use max there is a script in the forum: http://forum.craftanimations.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=79
I created it because i did not find any support for max 2009.
It requires more work than the plugin, but with some effort you could create such tracks with this script.

So much unexpected detail in this animation, it still deserves credit two years later. Any newer work to display?
