Wheels spinning backwards

Post by supremo1980 » Sun Jun 21, 2009 9:21 pm

I've just realised half way through my car animation, the wheels start spinning backwards. Even when I re record it, it does the same thing, what am I doing wrong?

First of all, make sure that you're recording with the latest version of Craft Director Tools. You can download the Craft Director Tools Bundle directly from this URL:
Windows: http://www.craftanimations.com/tasks/si ... Studio.exe
OS X: http://www.craftanimations.com/tasks/si ... io_Mac.zip

Second, what software are you using, is it 32-bit or 64-bit and are you using Windows or OS X?

I'm using win 32 bit and version 8.1.17, is this the latest?

Are you sure that the wheels are spinning backwards and that it's not just an optical illusion? Check the graph editor to see if the rotations are incorrect. Otherwise you can send an e-mail to support@craftanimations.com and either attach the scene directly, if it's less than 10MB, or it it's bigger I can provide you with FTP information so that you can upload the scene to us and we'll take a look at it.

Yes, this should work just perfectly. The reason is simply that when the speed of the car increases your wheels rotate more than half a turn between each frame, so when you check the rotation frame by frame they "rotate backwards", however if you temporarily increase the fps after a recording you can see that the wheels are rotating correctly (and as carl suggests you can check it i the graph editor). This then is especially important during motion blur rendering, and then, if you have the motion segments in the motion blur settings high enough it will render correctly as expected.

Best,
Luigi

Even when I scrub through the time line I can see it moving backwards. I'm going to re-rig it, I'll let you know if that works. Also how would I get the brake capilar to turn with the wheel left to right, but not rotate with the wheel?

If you're driving on a flat surface you can attach it to 4WheelerExt_01_WheelCenterMesh (make sure the "Fixate Wheel Center Nodes" checkbox is NOT checked in the configuration) or you can utilize Craft Gyro. Attach Gyro_01_pivot to the wheel and attach the brake caliper to Gyro_01_gyro.

Parenting the brake caliper to the 4WheelerExt_01_WheelCenterMesh, has seemed to have done the trick, thank you for you help.
