Crashing often when recording

Post by ruddiger52 » Tue Mar 10, 2009 6:42 pm

Whenever I have a scene with a highres model , it seems that I can only record one or two times before the program will crash when I press record. It happens even if I hide the highres mesh. If i delete the highres mesh from the file the problem goes away. After the crash I can reopen the file and record one or two times and then the third time it will crash. For some reason resimulating works okay.

I am running maya 64bit.

I have a dual quad intel with 8 gigs of ram.

Ruddiger, as for your high poly model parts, do you have them grouped and the group is the direct child to one of our tool's dummy objects?

For example:

No, i am using parenting contraints.... here is the outliner. Quick note, I have built multiple scenes using different models on two different workstations. I always have the same problems. The models are cad data and average around 2million polys

Ah, then that's probably the problem. Try using "Edit" -> "Parent" instead of a parent constraint.

Ok so here is my new outliner setup and I am having the same problem. The re simulate works fine but the record crashes immediately.

Something else I have noticed is that if I am using the keyboard as an input the record crashes everytime. If I use a gamepad as an input I can usually record 2-3 times before crashing. If I completely unbind all the inputs so I have no input control the record will work every time, but obviously the car does not move. I tried binding just one input to a keystroke and it crashed immediately. I'm feeling that the input controls are the issue when using a highres model. Any thoughts??

Ruddinger52,

I assume the "A4_Airport:" part of the names means that it's referenced from another scene? This could be a factor of the problem. If you try to re-create the error without using References, do you still get a crash?

yes ive built multiple scenes using different models on different workstations. the only factor that remains the same is the polycount of the models. The inputs seem to be whats causing the issue. can you replicate the problem on a 64 bit machine with a model roughly around 2million polys??
