I got a Downhill track made of polygon in maya 2008 & i am trying to rid a car on this track but after parent constraining the car as guided in tutorials, the car no longer stays on d track after pressing record but shifts to the grid axes altitude. only d gravity arrow mesh remains on d parented surface.
Yes, the car can be controlled but only horizontally, remains on d grid's altitude.i have tried using even a basic plane of a polygon, placing above or below the grid but as soon as i press record the craft's car & high poly car moves to on to the grid & then it starts animating.
Looking forward to your reply
Thank u

Re: 4wheeler Ext - shifts to Grid, pressing record{maya 08}
My guess would be that you've used a Parent Constraint instead of a regular parenting. Here's one way of doing this:
First select _GravityDirectionMesh (the red arrow) then hold down the Shift-key and click on the ground object to add it to your selection.
Now either through the menus, select Edit -> Parent, or use the keyboard shortcut: p .
Hopefully this is what went wrong and solves the problem.
