Optimizing code can actually be really fun, especially when you are making progress!
It turns out we might not need to cache keys after all. It actually runs so well i'm considering discarding the whole cache idea altogether. I've found out that some specific parts in the cache routine might actually decrease the speed rather than increase it, given the improved reading and writing routines.
Reading transforms from the scene is now lightning fast (about 4 times slower than 3ds max, so no complete match yet). If i can match the writing routines as well the cache is no longer necessary. We'll see how it goes tomorrow.
Maya is actually starting to make some sense. I might reconsider my opinions.
