Spline speed controller Vehicle problem

Post by ddustin » Sun Oct 04, 2009 6:56 pm

3ds Max, 2009, all Service packs, XP 64, Dual Quad Core Xeons, 32 GB RAM

We are using the Spline speed controller and the 4 wheel ext (and think they are great by the way).

The biggest problem we have is with the deceleration. Our vehicle (using craft 4 wheel ext in autonomous mode) is very jerky as it is decelerating (i think you may refer to this as "janky").

We are monitoring the speed of the carriage using Speedometer v0.2 (which works very well)

While the carriage is decelerating smoothly, the vehicle does not. It stops (or slows drastically) abruptly, then returns to the correct speed, the stops (or slows drastically) abruptly.

We have loaded the "Autonomous Tight" profile and still have the problem.

Can't we just have the vehicle follow the carriage exactly without the "jankyness"?

I can list all my settings if you think that will help.

Thanks,
David

Hi David.

Yes, this issue was discovered very recently and therefore it is being fixed as we speak.
Until it has been remedied there is a quick fix for it.

Go into the input settings, and then to the steering wheel input, and click on advanced. Here you you simply change the offset to 0.1 or something close to that.
Now when you run the simulation in autonomous mode these twitches should be gone.
Of course this is not a good solution, but it will work for you temporarily until the hardcode fix for the 4-wheeler extended per se has been released.

Luigi,
I am not using the latest version (waiting to hear back from your sales department so I can upgrade), we purchased our version last year.
Under the 4wheelext input property parameters we have:
Steering Wheel (Right/Left) Response Factor.. This is already set to 0.1
Steering Wheel (Right/Left) Maximum.. This is set to 1.4

Should I set the LR maximum to 0.1 ?

Thanks,
David

David,

What Luigi talked about was the Advanced options for the input "Steering Wheel". This is found in the input window, not the configuration window.

OK, we purchased the new version of Spline speed controller, 4wheelext and trailer.

After some problems on the installation of the max 2009 64 bit version (it did not create the correct .gup file in the plugins directory) we were able to see the spline speed controller but NOW we get an application error when we open our project file.

The file was created with an earlier version of the Spline Speed controller (last year) and the 4wheelext.

Surely you are not going to tell me I can't open a previous version? :x

The spline speed controler is not visible in the Max 2010 License manager even after we re-installed the Craft Director Studio, and after we loaded the license file.

A little help please.....

David,

Make sure you have version 9.2.2 of Craft Director Studio installed. Version 9.2.1 introduced a lot of problems that are fixed in 9.2.2.

You can download the latest version directly using the link below:
Windows: http://www.craftanimations.com/tasks/si ... Studio.exe

Let us know if the problem persists.

Installing from that link still gets me 9.2.1

Should I be manually deleting files before updating or something?
