Noob looking for suggestions.

I am attempting to see how far I have progressed in a year of animation by redoing a video game go kart (take a guess) animation.
Instead of the old align to spline in cinema 4d I'm trying to do things the professional way with craft.
Currently have 20 karts on the track. Going to be using about 5 tracks total at a lap or two each. The drivers are actually 3d models of my friends and i want to make sure everyone gets a good amount of facetime as well as the animation is done properly.
I finished the first lap with the first driver, but not entirely sure about the best way to proceed. I am just starting to understand the basics and the video tutorials are fantastic but still the advanced scenes are a little over my head.

Any suggestions of the amount of auto vs myself controlling or is trying to set up a speed spline tool the best way or what? Any help is appreciated!

(let me know if you want pictures :))

Pictures would be great or if we could get a video preview, it would be even better!

Looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Fun project!

Thanks for the response Carl! it definitely is a fun project for what i use it for. I am just a twitch live streamer that started messing around with 3d graphics for my stream and turns out i love it so I have been spending the last year, especially the last 6 months in quarantine really trying to teach myself as much as I can to hopefuilly get a job in the field some day. So here is a link to my one from last year that was about 2 months in to using cinema 4d, be warned, its definitely a little rough. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22AzNrzUFts and here is where i am at after 12 hours with craft. 21 cars rigged and ready haha https://imgur.com/a/LyZ8TGS

I would use a combination. Use a spline to make the base guide and then use the controller to deviate from that path. This will also give you better control of the animation. Spline Speed-Controller is great when you need to control the specific speed i.e. cruise control. When using autonomous mode you can always deviate from the patch using an input device during the recording.

Pretty much exactly was I was thinking was going to be the case. Really appreciate the feedback Patrick!
