Presets for Cars ?

Post by brox » Sat Jun 13, 2009 6:00 pm

Hello,

I tested the 4Wheeler and so far I really like it. But what I really struggle with:
- getting the right values for a realistic acting/driving ordinary car ?

well.. I loaded some presets, but for some reason.. this doesn't look realistic.
I use max2008, 30fps.. sometimes the car drives as fast as hell... if I choose another preset it is slow like a snale.

When the car stands still, and I push the gas pedal... the car starts to move.. but like I said, not realistic.
If I increase the maximum speed, the car gets from 0-100km/h in maybe 0.5 seconds... I wish a regular car could do that as well in real life... haha...
but anyways.. I love this tool.. but I couldn't find a video that explains and shows what each option is doing, and how it is influencing the whole car system.

To test all values, and understanding what it is doing.. I guess it will take me 40-60 hours... uuaaahhhh...

soo... are there any presets or setups that can be loaded through a little icon system ?
that would rock... you know, just like regular cars, common cars you can see on the street.. TownCars, Vans, maybe PickUp Trucks, etc.... this is what I am looking for.

Anyways.. I really like it.. I just struggle with the settings to get a realistic look.....
so if there is anywhere a place to get presets that looks really realistic, PLEASE let me know ...

thank you so much for every little help

Hey Brox

This sounds like a major systems breakdown. The car works perfect and is production proven in countless situations.
You could try reinstalling the system, and then you should also try installing the beta version which you find in the "BETA versions" pages in this forum. Follow the instructions there. However, the presets will not work since many parameters have been added that will be put in the wrong slots so to speak, so use the factory setting as the instructions say and deviate from this "center point" by changing the Suspension Parameters and Gas Pedal values to start with (it is real easy).
Finally, we are in the midst of releasing a the so called Facelift of the whole system in a couple of weeks, and with this facelift the new car will include all new presets.

Hope this solves the problems you have had.

Hello Luigi and thank you for your reply...

well... I am pretty sure, or let me correct, I know it's not a system breakdown. I think so far the 4wheeler car works with the linking, and everthign else like shown in your video tutorials.
But like I said, if I use the standard settings which is by default a regular car I guess, it doesn't really move totally correct.

It looks like a bit a toy car.. and I can't figure out what it is. Some points...
- if you drive and stear to left or right, it reacts to fast, to nervoes..
- if I drive with the car, let's say 50 mph (estimated by self caluclating how fast a car is moving per second) it's almost impossible to stear the car through a city and keep it on the road
- tachometer (well, it's hard to know which speed you drive, because there is no tachometer, I already recomended that in the wishlist)
- brake: the brake is so fast, it stops like there is glue on the tires, you drive estimated 50mph, push the break button and kabumm the ABS brek is so hard and fast it stops unrealistic...
- suspension: when you move to left and right, or you push the gas pedal, the car body always goes through the wheels
- gas pedal: when you stop pushing the forward button (keyboard) the car immidiately stops giving gas .. you know, at least you can keep the speed very easy in a real car if you push the gas pedal with a specific pressure, or you do have a tempomat. withotu that, you have the option full gas, or no gas at all.... that makes it hard with the keyboard, I know you reccomend a joystick or somethign like that... but just for simple tests, the keyboard should do it as well... right ?

gravel: I tried a lot to get the look and feeling as real as possible, but sometimes the car body reacts very nervoes, to stiff, to hard in vibration...
- frame rate: does it need a different frame rate like 30fps/NTSC ?

the thing is... I can't say it's bad.. no.. nothing at all, I really love it... but I really struggle with all these things...my idea was, I rig the car, setup done.. laod the preset or use just the default preset and use it...
but that dream exploded in a bubble .....

If I would know how to fix all those things, that would be awesome I am pretty sure we could use it for our production, but to do so, I would need to convince my boss. the test was so far like explained above...
if you do have a different car preset, that works for an ordinary city car, so please, please post for download...

I think I did everything correct, followed your tutorials and instuctions, even with the independent brake on the brake-disc that was nice and easy to do.
so I really can't find any problem, issue or mistake with the rig I did... so like I said.... I love it, but would need really help to see that thing working for 100%.

so please, until your new facelift comes out, can you please post a nce and easy preset for download ?
or even snapshots as .jpg files so I can see the different values....?

of course I tested a bit more.. and I was goign into changing the suspension values, etc.. but it's really hard with all the different parameters to get a realistic looking car..
I think it's good that you have so many options.. .. but it takes a while to get deeper and understand your feature values...

for users like me it would be best to have a dummie-surface wih just a few options.. and if you want to have more options, you could expend to advanced freak mode or so... lol:
well.. just an idea.....

I really love it, but I also do need serious help so it will work for 100%.
thank you so much
